Way Out West

Way Out West

by Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire

Elder Green is dead and gone
Lost his way going to town
Don’t know who he is or what he’s done
But it sure sounds sweet rolling off the tongue
Yeah it sure sounds sweet rolling off the tongue
If I was in an old hotel
That happened to be on fire
Maybe I’d jump or
Maybe I’d reconsider
Then I’d climb a little higher
Like an oily rag
In a dusty corner
Like a box of matches near an open flame
I’d jump 18 stories from a burning fire
Sooner than I’d face this world of shame
Yeah I’d skip this town and
Jump a westbound train
Take these fingerlings from my fingers
Spoken with your breath
With white-washed eyes
And flies that linger
Seems rather forlorn and bereft
I said where you goin’ with that sack on your shoulder Willie
As if I couldn’t have guessed
He says I’m gonna get the hell
Out of Slag Valley and take a little stroll way out west
If I was in an old hotel
That happened to be on fire
Maybe I’d jump or
Maybe I’d reconsider
Then I’d climb a little higher
Like an oily rag
In a dusty corner
Like a box of matches near an open flame
I’d get so far away
From that old matchbox hotel
Man I’d skip this town and
Jump a westbound train
Anything to get away from this shame
Take these fingerlings from my fingers
Spoken with your breath
With white-washed eyes
And flies that linger
Seems rather forlorn and bereft
I said where you goin’ with that sack on your shoulder Willie
As if I couldn’t have guessed
He says I’m gonna get the hell
Out of Slag Valley and take a little stroll way out west

Bourbon Street

Bourbon Street

by Jeff Tuohy

Well, I’ve been living in sin for about a month
Something turns me round it’s something that I just
Can’t understand, the way I behave.
Some people you can never save.
In my right hand, I’ve got a girl on my ear
And on my left hand, I’m throwing back a beer.
What can I say? Of me, you steer clear
When I driving down on Bourbon Street, yeah
Cuz’ every night we through this little soiree
Gonna turn her head until she’s mine, all mine
Every night I breed a new disaster
I might be right, I might be wrong
Try to get away and I will bring you right along, so
Sit back, have a seat
Sometimes salty, sometimes sweet
Hard to swallow, but fun to eat
You ain’t never leaving Bourbon Street, come on!
When I walk the street people step aside
Twirling my cane and smiling wide
Some would say I’m a carnal slave
I put my hands on what I crave
I’m the mayor of this crazy town
Where the queens will party with the clown
Try to swim with me and you’re bound to drown
Throw you a line while you’re going down
Come on!
Yeah, I know this street and I own this crowd
And my only companion is a lightning cloud
I seem real nice and easy to trust
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
I’m gonna lead you a path to self destruct
On this crazy train that I conduct.
And it’s’a one, two, three…
Cuz’ every night we through this little soiree
Gonna turn her head until she’s mine, all mine
Every night I breed a new disaster
I might be right, I might be wrong
Try to get away and I will bring you right along, so
Sit back, have a seat
Sometimes salty, sometimes sweet
Hard to swallow, but fun to eat
You ain’t never leaving Bourbon Street

Lilly

Lilly

by Pink Martini

Lilly comes when you stop to call her
Lilly runs when you look away
Lilly leaves kisses on your collar
Lilly, Lilly, Lilly, Lilly, stay!
Lilly comes when you stop to call her
Lilly runs when you look away
Lilly leaves kisses on your collar
Lilly, Lilly, Lilly, Lilly, stay!
One day she passed him by
A twinkle in her eye
He said ” she was meant for me!”
But when he turned around
He lost what he had found
Oh where can his Lilly be?
Lilly comes when you stop to call her
Lilly runs when you look away
Lilly leaves kisses on your collar
Lilly, Lilly, Lilly, Lilly, stay!
He searched the city streets
He tempted her with treats
But nobody stopped to taste them
Some are in his pocket
Some are in a locket
He couldn’t bring himself to waste them
Ever since she’s gone
Some days he can’t go on
She ruined for another
Pressed up against the glass
He prays that she will pass
Now he’s living with his mother
Lilly comes when you stop to call her
Lilly runs when you look away
Lilly leaves kisses on your collar
Lilly, Lilly, Lilly, Lilly, stay!
Lilly comes when you stop to call her
Lilly runs when you look away
Lilly leaves kisses on your collar
Lilly, Lilly, Lilly, Lilly, stay!

Who Is He (and What Is He to You)?

Who Is He (and What Is He to You)?
performed by Tower of Power

A man we passed just tried to stare me down
And when I looked at you, you looked at the ground
I don’t know who he is but I think that you do
Dag gummit, who is he and what is he to you?
Something in my heart and in your eyes
Tells me that he’s not someone passin’ by
And when you cleared your throat was that your cue?
Dag gummit, who is he and what is he to you?
Now when I add the sum of you and me, dig this
I get confused ’cause I keep coming up with three
Well listen, you’re too much for one man and not enough for two
Dag gummit, who is he and what is he to you?
What is he to you? I wanna know
Now tell me you that man don’t have much intuition, no
Is that what you really think woman or are you wishin’?
Listen, before you wreck your old home be sure about your new
Dag gummit, who is he? What is he to you?
What is he to you? Someone, somebody say it
Say it again baby
Woman respect yourself, respect yourself
Who was that man with you girl?
What is he to you? ‘Cause who was he to you?
What is he to you?
Tell me who are you lovin’?
Who is he to you, baby?
Respect yourself, respect yourself
Who was he to you?
Who was he to you lady?
I gotta know right now
Just tell me
