Musical musings for reflection

I’m sensing a theme here…

by The Pointer Sisters

Live on Midnight Special – 1979 **I was 8**

I’m ridin’ in your car
You turn on the radio
You’re pullin’ me close
I just say no
I say I don’t like it
But you know I’m a liar
‘Cause when we kiss
Ooooh, fire
Late at night
You’re takin’ me home
You say you wanna stay
I say I wanna be alone
I say I don’t love you
But you know I’m a liar
‘Cause when we kiss
Ooooh, fire
You had a hold on me
Right from the start
A grip so tight
I couldn’t tear it apart
My nerves all jumpin’
Actin’ like a fool
Well, your kisses they burn
But my heart stays cool
Well, Romeo and Juliet
Samson and Delilah
Baby you can bet
A love they couldn’t deny
My words say split
But my words they lie
‘Cause when we kiss
Ooooh, fire
Ooooh, fire
Kisses like fire
Burn me up with fire
I like what you’re doin’ now
Touchin’ me
Touchin’ me
Burnin’ me
Take me home

Fire Water Burn – Daily Prompt: Burning Down the House

Your home is on fire. Grab five items (assume all people and animals are safe). What did you grab?

Flame Separator

I think that would be really easy for me. I’m not really attached to our computer. It’s big and old and bulky… I really only use that to access the internet and check Facebook and update my blog — stuff like that. And both of my daughters have their own laptops to worry about. So this is all it really boils down to:

  1. Our picture box — it’s underneath the bed so it’s really easy to grab quickly.
  2. A fresh change of clothes — or two if that’s possible. I can just keep on the jammies for right now…
  3. A jacket — I live in Colorado and it’s cold right now.
  4. My purse — my most important things are in there (credit cards, ID, check book, insurance cards, car keys, etc.).
  5. My phone — the rest of my most important things are in there (like my music. I would be sad to lost the albums, but I don’t have anything irreplaceable).

And now, something we all can enjoy:

Hot Dog

Have some good ole foot-tappin’ British rockabilly to help get you through today 🙂

Hot Dog

by Led Zeppelin

Did you know (credit Wikipedia):

  • It is the only song on the album, In Through the Out Door, not co-written by bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones.
  • The song was influenced by American Rockabilly music. It emerged from the band’s London pre-production rehearsals, at which it was typical for them to run through old Elvis and Ricky Nelson material from the 1950s.
  • Plant said the lyrics were a tribute to Texas and the state of mind of the people who lived there. Plant also mentions the name “U-Haul” in one of the song’s verses, referencing the American-based, “move-it-yourself” company. The title of the song – Hot Dog – refers to a distinctly American cuisine.
  • Page used a Fender Telecaster on this song, outfitted with a device called a B-Bender. This device, which raises the pitch of the guitar’s B String via interface with the musician’s guitar strap, can be heard at the end of the song’s guitar solo.

Well I just got into town today
To find my girl who’s gone away
She took the Greyhound at the General Store
I searched myself I searched the town
When I finally did sit down
I find myself no wiser than before
She said we couldn’t do no wrong
No other love could be so strong
She locked up my heart in her bottom drawer
Now she took my heart she took my keys
From in my old blue dungarees
And I’ll never go to Texas anymore
[Chorus:] Now my baby’s gone I don’t know what to do
She took my love and walked right out the door
And if I ever find that girl I know one thing for sure
I’m gonna give her something like she never had before
I took her love at seventeen
A little late these days it seems
But they said heaven is well worth waiting for
I took her word I took it all
Beneath the sign that said “U-haul”
She left angels hangin’ round for more
I thought I had it all sewn up
Our love, a plot, a pick-up truck
But folks said she was after something more
I never did quite understand
All that talk about rockin’ bands
But they just rolled my doll right out the door
Oh yeah, they just rolled my doll right out the door!

Seven Bridges Road

When I was a teenager, I always felt better when I belted this song out at the top of my lungs. My mother used to beg me to stop playing this song over and over and over every Saturday morning while I was cleaning the bathrooms.

But then, listening to The Eagles always makes me feel better — even now. It must be their timeless 3-part harmony…

Seven Bridges Road

performed by The Eagles

written by Stephen T. Young

There are stars in the southern sky
Southward as you go.
There is moonlight and moss in the trees
Down the Seven Bridges Road.

Now I have loved you like a baby…
Like some lonesome child,
And I have loved you in a tame way,
And I have loved you wild.

Sometimes there’s a part of me
Has to turn from here and go…
Running like a child from these warm stars
Down the Seven Bridges Road.

There are stars in the southern sky.
And if ever you decide you should go,
There is a taste of time sweet and honey
Down the Seven Bridges Road.

Daily Prompt: Dearly Departed

The first time I heard this song I asked my daughters to remember to play it at my funeral.

I thought I understood the words… But, then I watched the video…

Last Stop This Town

by The Eels

You’re dead but the world keeps spinning
Take a spin through the world you left
It’s getting dark a little too early
Are you missing the dearly bereft?

Taking flight and you could be
Here tomorrow
Taking flight, well, you could get
Here tonight

I’m gonna fly on down for the
Last stop to this town
I’m gonna fly on down then fly away
Well, alright

Get down

Taking a spin through the neighborhood
The neighbors scream
What ya talkin’ bout?
‘Cause they don’t know how to
Let you in
And I can’t let you out

What if I was not your only friend
In this world
Can you take me where you’re going
If you’re never coming back

I’m gonna fly on down for the
Last stop to this town
I’m gonna fly on down
Then fly away on my way

Get down

Why don’t we take a ride
Away up high
Through the neighborhood
Up over the billboards and the factories
And smoke

I’m gonna fly on down for the
Last stop to this town
I’m gonna fly on down
Then fly away on my way
Fly away

Get down

performed by TLC

A lonely mother gazing out of her window
Staring at a son that she just can’t touch
If at any time he’s in a jam
She’ll be by his side
But he doesn’t realize he hurts her so much
But all the praying just ain’t helping
At all ’cause he can’t seem to keep
His self out of trouble
So he goes out and he makes his money
The best way he knows how
Another body laying cold in the gutter
Listen to me
Don’t go chasing waterfalls
Please stick to the rivers and lakes that
You’re used to
I know that you’re gonna have it your way
Or nothing at all
But I think you’re moving too fast
Little precious has a natural obsession
For temptation but he just can’t see
She gives him loving that his body can’t handle
But all he can say is baby it’s good to me
One day he goes and takes a glimpse
In the mirror
But he doesn’t recognize his own face
His health is fading and he doesn’t know why
3 letters took him to his final resting place
Y’all don’t hear me
I seen a rainbow yesterday
But too many storms have come and gone
Leavin’ a trace of not one God-given ray
Is it because my life is ten shades of gray
I pray all ten fade away
Seldom praise Him for the sunny days
And like His promise is true
Only my faith can undo
The many chances I blew
To bring my life to anew
Clear blue and unconditional skies
Have dried the tears from my eyes
No more lonely cries
My only bleedin’ hope
Is for the folk who can’t cope
Wit such an endurin’ pain
That it keeps ’em in the pourin’ rain
Who’s to blame
For tootin’ caine in your own vein
What a shame
You shoot and aim for someone else’s brain
You claim the insane
And name this day in time
For fallin’ prey to crime
I say the system got you victim to your own mind
Dreams are hopeless aspirations
In hopes of comin’ true
Believe in yourself
The rest is up to me and you

Saving All My Love…

Saving All My Love For You

sung by Whitney Houston

Not my favorite hair for her, but…

A few stolen moments is all that we share
You’ve got your family, and they need you there
Though I’ve tried to resist, being last on your list
But no other man’s gonna do
So I’m saving all my love for you
It’s not very easy, living all alone
My friends try and tell me, find a man of my own
But each time I try, I just break down and cry
Cause I’d rather be home feeling blue
So I’m saving all my love for you
You used to tell me we’d run away together
Love gives you the right to be free
You said be patient, just wait a little longer
But that’s just an old fantasy
I’ve got to get ready, just a few minutes more
Gonna get that old feeling when you walk through that door
For tonight is the night, for feeling alright
We’ll be making love the whole night through
So I’m saving all my love
Yes I’m saving all my love
Yes I’m saving all my love for you
No other woman, is gonna love you more
Cause tonight is the night, that I’m feeling alright
We’ll be making love the whole night through
So I’m saving all my love
Yeah I’m saving all my love
Yes I’m saving all my love for you
For you, for you
